Does anyone know? It just does't seem right to prey on honest people.

People here know, and yes, you are correct. It is not right (and it's illegal in many places) to prey on honest people. That's why this website is here, to inform and alert people so that they don't become victims.

I GET SO MANY OF THESE SCAM EMAILS. THE SAD THING IS I HAVE EVEN GOTTEN ONE THAT SAID HE WAS A MARINE OVER IN THE WAR ZONE. HOW DUMB DO THEY REALLY THINK WE ARE? BUT WITH ALL THE SCAMMERS OUT THERE TO PREY ON US AND USE THE MILITARY IS JUST THE VERY LOW OF LOW....I DONT SEE THIS ENDING ANYTIME SOON, I HOPE I AM WRONG!

They Are Low Lifes And I Am Sick And Tired Of Getting Their Bull In My Email..i Know There Is Nothing I Can Do. But As I Get Them I Will Continune Posting Them On Here. Cuz I Know New Ones Come Out Every Day And I Dont Want Anyone To Get Ripped Off By Any Of Them. It Just Sickens Me That They Will Take The Hard Earned Money We Make And Not Earn An Honest Dollar Themself. Grrrrr They Just Make Me So Mad And Enturn Has Made Me Want Them Caught Even More, Everytime I Get One Of Their Emails, Trying To Say They Are An Elderly Lady, A Marine, A Normal Housewife And Everything Else Under The Sun.

Yes, it is a shame that honest people get duped by these guys. I just pity the fact that they could put their intelligence to good use and use it for evil instead. Can you imagine making a living from crime, always having to cover your tracks, moving around, keeping your lies all straight, always looking over your shoulder, running from the law, and worrying about being caught? How can they sleep at night?

I So Totally Agree Kam.....but I Dont Think They Are As Smart As You Give Them Credit....i See Them As Evil Eels Slimming Their Was Into Your Pockets And Bank Accounts....but Like You Said I Dont See How They Sleep At Night....but I Think If They Took Their Creativeness And Put It In A Positive Way They May Be Able To Make A Good Honest Living That Way...and Then They May Be Able To Live Without The Worry If The Law Is At Their Door.

Scammers are rarely prosecuted in the most active countries. So I don't think they are too worried about the police/prosecution. Even though Nigeria has a law against "up front fees" (419 scams), it is rarely used.
They wouldn't do it unless they were good enough to make money at it, so don't underestimate their intelligence. They may have poor English skills, but people lose all their savings all the time.
They even use religion as a way to make you trust them. By adding things such as "God bless you" or "thank God I found you", a lot of Romance scammers profess to be a devout Christian.
I think they can sleep at night since they think that Americans all have vast wealth (although a lot of their victims have little to nothing). I think that most of them who profess to be Christian actually believe they are, as they see nothing really wrong with the profession.
I read somewhere that Nigeria alone makes BILLIONS of dollars a year. I think the fact was it was the 3rd source of income in the country.
They even have popular music videos singing about the profit to be made from scamming. This increases the thought that there is nothing wrong with the profession, and makes it glamorous to impressionable youth.

This dude...and, hell, ALL of these Nigerian folks never cease to amaze me! Thank GOD I have the sense to recognize this crap and it makes me absolutely sick to know that these people target seniors and young adults. I don't, by any means, to racially profile however, most of the scams originate in Nigeria, Phillipines, and who knows where else! It's possible they facillitate this BS from the USA! Over the last 2 months I have received a check for $3,950 which I was supposed to cash, keep $200 and wire the rest to someone in Illinois. I also received at least 3 lottery scams....but had to PAY to get my winnings!!! And or the last few days, I've had General Peter Olu telling me he was gonna send me 2, yeah TWO trunks full of cash...even sent me pics of this money. There's also another one, her name is Kristie Uggeri and she had billions she wanted to split w/me...uh-huh...yeah right! BE CAREFUL PEOPLE! The old adage rings true today: IF IT SOUNDS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE...IT IS!!!! I don't know how I got on all thesedamn lists, but I have a feeling that it's thru resumes I have posted on Monster and Career Builder. Good luck and stay safe!

I often wonder, what do scammers think of when they wake up in the morning , and do note that I am using the term "think" in a very broad, general sense.
Who shall I scam today?
What scam format shall I use?
How many scams mails shall I send to AFI?

I don't think they think - more likely they just go in and do what the oga tells them...
I know today it took over 1/2 an hour to get a name and address from someone. To send them a WU - you'd think they'd have that written down somewhere

Suzanne: you confirmed one of my suspicions: Smammer Central must be somewhere in or through CRAIG'S LIST!!! I don't know how many resumes I've sent to "prospective employers" through Craig's list. I know that during one evening I had sent as many as 35 resumes - on average at least 15 - 20 or so at one point almost each evening in August, 2007 through May of 2008. I was so desperate to find a different job.
Career Builder's and Monster.com is also a sucker recruit center for scammer spammers.
Fast forward to this present time…02 - 26 - 09, I have been bombarded with e-mail scams. I received as many as 70 in just this month (February) alone. All of them have been reported to the FBI. They are kept in a special file. Each one has its own "IC3 complaint" index number. Name a scammer, I might be able to name him/her too.

What a bloody miserable way to try and make a living.
I'm not in the least frustrated about scamming compared to a suborn victim it rates second .
I spent literally hours proving how a Russian love scammer was working him and hours of replying to each question where doubts were still embedded deep into his mind , then continually the next post he still had doubt forgetting about everything I said and continued to ask the same questions "do they usually do this" and "is this normal for a scammer "
I never got the scammers email address from him because in his mind she still existed as a person in the photo , and due to the months he spent exchanging mail with her he sent 1400 $ but by a miracle send no more .
The outcome of the whole battle after he lied to me on three separate occasions, he was married btw and this complicated things further , I managed to leaver this idiot away from his fantasy and got him to concentrate on the facts .
It was the most frustrating thing I have ever done online and to cap it all he would not part with the email address so I could not warn others.

That sucks Ben - I'm still new to this, so haven't had any stubborn ones yet...
An update to one that a couple people knew about -
I had a nice YIM with a lady who lost 5k the other afternoon (single mom, on unemployment, saving for school) - she showed up here on AFI to see what she could do to get her money back.
After an explanation why the money is gone, and pointing her to fraudaid she was still hoping that an imminent arrest would be made and she'd get her money back.
I tried to gently remind her the money was gone and she was just going to have to move forward -
the bank was nice enough to let her make payments towards the 3k she owed them (wiped out her 2k savings), instead of taking her to court which was their first option...

There are similarities in scam money loss situation and we all know how it feels to be robbed . I was still angry a week later btw, I am glad to be able to post about it .

The scam mail has slowed down. Is it possible the lads are knocking off for Easter?
De Master Yoda

One would hope that it is slowing down because of the arrests made recently, but I think this is being too optimistic.
More than likely many scammers have gone back to their villages for Easter, to re acquaint themselves with their favorite goats.
Even scammers get homesick.:D

I have had so many scam e-mails I started saving them and was going to
print them out and take them to the Police station. but my computer went down and I lost them. but I have had two lately. honestly do they really think
we are stupid enough to fall for a lottery we never entered, and they use the
same numbers for each person, they are so stupid sometimes. I had one
three pages long telling me how bad they needed their money out of the
country . this last one was suppose to be from Dell. i checked the Dell
on google, nothing was ever mentioned about a lottery. so I think we are
getting smarter then they. are.
i fell for one once and lost 8000. good job my husband paid the bank. i vowed
i never would get scammed again. and the idiot said i will give you your money back if you work with me. he wanted me to scam people for him
after he scammed me. i am a lot smarter now.
