    Continuing OCHA employment scam January 2011

    Hi everybody,

    I also regret to have discovered this site only now. I fell victim to exactly the same fraud format as indicated in various stories here.

    It all started with a vacancy anouncement from UNOCHA, followed up by an email interview:

    As part of this hiring process, applicants are to undergo an online job interview.
    This is used to evaluate and appraise the individual based on qualification and work experience.

    We have therefore attached an online interview questionnaire and a U.N Personal History Form to this letter for your immediate action.

    Follow instructions and answer all questions as it relates to career challenges and workplace experience in various work capacities at different organizational levels as well as your future aspirations in improving on these challenges.

    Completed questionnaire and Personal History Form should be returned via Email to the office of the human resources within 3 working days from this day.

    Approximately a month later (14/12) this was followed up by a job offer and the request to send some document tot hem by email:

    and return via E-mail to the Human resources section along with the
    signed contract agreement and U.N Declaration Form .

    Having no suspicion at that time, also because the email addresses and the attached forms looked somehow genuine with the appropriate logo's, I availed them the requested documents. On which I received a request tos end soem more filled forms (17/12):

    -----I wish to acknowledge receipt of your employment documents.
    Download and fill the attached Data form to enable us commence the processing of necessary work and travel documents for you and your immediate family .

    You are requested to fill the form also for your spouse/ immediate family/ dependent.
    Attach one scanned passport photograph per person (preferred in colour). Photos must be front view, full face, on a plain light /white background.

    Photos must be recent, taken within 6 months, passport -size (5x5 cm/2x2 inch). Send to ohrm@ocha-gva.org

    You are to Provide proper certification (scanned marriage and birth certificates) about family members and dependents . Failing receipt of the necessary documentation before resumption of official duties , they would be enrolled as a single individual,without benefits for family members.

    The purpose of medical clearance is to ensure, candidates for recruitment as staff members are physically and mentally fit for employment; and that staff members continue to maintain such fitness in a manner that enables them to perform the functions assigned to them at a particular duty station, as well as to travel to, or work at, other duty stations.

    I answered that getting all the details together in the year’s holiday season required some more time, after which I received following email (21/12):

    -----Dear

    Thanks for your email. We would be willing to reschedule either your resumption date and orientation programme date by extending it with a period of 2 weeks to enable you meet with the submission of all the necessary documents .
    We also have a staff housing scheme in place details of the scheme would be sent to you by my colleague in charge of staff welfare/housing arrangement. I would also be sending other documents (UNLP form) which you are expected to fill and return along with other documents.

    I then received (21/12):

    -----OCHA in partnership with the Federal Office for Housing (FOH ), Switzerland is providing a 2,3, and 4 bedroom Flat Apartments for Its staffs .sample picture of an apartment being provided is attached .

    Staffs would not pay any annual or monthly rent through out the period of employment with organisation in the country and there shall be no form of deductions from staffs salary .
    Staffs would only be responsible for the Federal Office for Housing
    (FOH ), Switzerland application charges and their bills such as water , electricity ,Gas e.t.c

    This housing scheme is being put in place to ease the difficulties usually
    experienced by staffs when they do report for official duties in the
    country . Applicants are only to pay the Federal Office for
    Housing (FOH ), Switzerland application charge of

    $3,150.00 for 2 bedroom apartment
    $4,250.00 for 3 bedroom apartment
    $5,350.00 for 4 bedroom apartment

    Please note that the Housing application charge is not a monthly or annual charge but rather a single Application payment made by staff to obtain the apartment throughout the initial employment contract period .

    Staffs are encouraged to commence the process immediately as late applicants stand the risk of having their application rejected .

    A copy of the filled form should also be sent to the Housing unit via e-mail: housing@ocha-gva.org Upon receipt of the form you would be informed of the payment procedures of the application charges for the apartment selected .We do only encourage staffs who can afford the cost to apply .

    Find attached an invoice for the payment of the Housing Application Charges for the selected apartment through the company (First Boss Tech. Investment Limited ) in charge of our staffs Housing arrangements in Bangkok -Thailand, Suva- Fiji , Hong Kong and Geneva-Switzerland.

    A copy of the Bank payment receipt should be sent via e-mail housing@ocha-gva.org to the housing/welfare unit once effected to enable us complete your application and another copy to firstboss@vu.cx for confirmation of payment . Applicants are advised to commence the payment of the Housing application charges upon receipt of invoice because of limited space available as staffs from other international organisations are also participating in the housing scheme.Kindly acknowledge receipt.

    I declined that offer and my first suspicions were raised (reading the emails back I can’t believe I did trust the set-up). When there were no answers on subsequent emails and having refused some other job offers, I checked and found this site….

    Reparation seems not very hopeful...

    There Are many ways they can get your email but if you have posted a resume online then they can probably try and scam you that way.

    The Same Scam Still Going on!

    Thanks to this site, I never ended up sending my materials off. I got the first email last week, but became suspicious because I couldn't find anything about the sender on Google, and when I copy-pasted the entire signature line there, this page came up. My question to you all is: how do they get our email addresses from the UNV roster? Had you posted your CVs elsewhere?

    Another Fraud concerning United Nations. This is Council for Sustainable Development, under the Department of Sustainable Development UNDSD.

    I was suspicious when I noticed their urge in getting money. By the way, they were very responsive, they are not bots. Fortunately, I only lost a dream and some time, and I sent them only insensitive datas, such as CV and certificates.

    You would be contacted directly by either their agent,Multi Logistics Ltd upon instructions from USA department of housing regarding the associated payment by you and it would be to your interest to co-operate fully with them to enable you get the home properly reserved and allocated.

    You would need to make the payment by bank to bank swift transfer into an account as would be provided to you and for a one bedroom ,you would need to pay a one off payment for admin of processing fees in the sum of about $3,950.

    The reason of making the payment as soon as you are contacted is that many other persons are interested in the houses and the houses are not many and so,they deal on first come first serve and we encourage all our staff to hasten their payment to partake in the lofty programme as soon as they are contacted for payment.

    I regret that I discovered this web site too late... I had exactly the same story but they asked for H-3 Visa fees ( in order to be able to go to New York for the training) and not for housing.

    I've red all yours exchange of e-mails and I can tell you that they are becoming "smarter". Unfortunately I'm not a UN employee, so I couldn't guess that UN always pay for everything...

    I started to have suspects only when they told me that the first money transfer didn't arrive on time (because she was leaving for Christmas holydays) in somebody's bank account in Hong Kong, and that I should do a second transfer (that I didn't do) by Western Union in order to have the Visa on time (that was just 2 days ago). Now I'm still in contact with them and they don't know that I know... I told them that I couldn't do the transfer by Wester Union because of Christmas holidays and I proposed them to meet with a friend of mine in London that would be able to give them the money (because the guy of the agency is supposed to be in a one week training in London)... but they answered that it would be better to do the transfer by Western Union (they even scanned me the photocopy of the american passport of the "beneficiary), after the week end...

    I'm trying to keep in touch with them because I want to find a way to catch them... any advice?

    I would suggest payment via bank transfer but that takes three working days or via Western Union which is immediate all depending on you but i would suggest that to avoid delay Western Union would be the best option and when you want to make the remittance you can inform me accordingly and i would send you details to use. As per the refund if you make new remittance i would immediately send a notification so that an immediate reversal is done in that respect but if you feel the bank transfer would not exceed three working days i would advice that you proceed with bank transfer but all the same advice me on your decision.

    OCHA employmen scam still on

    I recieved an advertising for a vacancy in Geneva with OCHA which was sent to a friend of mine who works in UNDP. I applied for the job and 3 days later I received a form for an on line interview which I filled in and sent. One month later I received a job offer, at that moment I started noticing some strange things such a very plain stationary, that I applied for a P-4 position and I was offered a P-5 and that I applied for a position in Geneva and I was offered one in Thailand. Nontheless I sent the paper work together with my certificates as requested, they aknowledged receipt and the following day I recieved and application form for a housing scheme, after this I started to become really supicios and then the following day I received an email asking me to contact an agency in Thailand in order to pay USD 2,950 for the apartment I was going to get from the housing scheme, here is when I started to look in the internet until I got to this page to know that it was a fake job offer.
