This is called a 419 scam and it is typical of the format.

1. You are promised a lot of money for which you will have to pay some advance fees. That's why this is often called the advance fee fraud.
2. The barrister is not real. Neither is Kelly Sarpong. These are both fictional names (although Adam Smith was a famous 18th century economist).
3. Providing any of the information requested could possibly put you in a situation where you could have your identity stolen by the scammer.
4. If you know how to post email headers that would give us a better idea of where this email was sent from.
5. "I wouldn't like you to betray the trust and confidentiality" but it doesn't matter because this is a scammer, not a barrister. The scammer just wants to steal your money.

The best thing to do is to stop all communication with "Adam Smith" and delete the emails.

It's remotely possible they could steal your identity. if you have a very public internet profile then they could. That probably isn't very likely.

Also, there is no woman dying of cancer. That's just the cancer victim format and the "cancer victim" usually quickly passes you off to the lawyer.

In the UK there are 2 types of "lawyers", solicitors and barristers. Solicitors perform legal work such as writing up wills, etc. They do not appear in court. Barristers do the same things but they will argue cases in court.

And don't worry, you're doing fine for someone who has just entered the realm of the anti-scam world.
