And meanwhile....
Police seek taxi bank-card thief
Nov 22, 2007
Canadian Press
Police in Toronto are looking for a taxi driver who has allegedly stolen debit cards and money from his passengers.
When customers pay using their debit card, the driver allegedly passes them a modified handheld device to use.
When the driver swipes the card, police say the device records the banking and PIN information, but the transaction does not actually go through.
The suspect gives customers back a card that isn't theirs or is blank, and they aren't aware until they next try to use their debit card.
By then, police allege the taxi driver has already gone to a bank machine and used their card and PIN number to withdraw as much money as possible.
Police have distributed several pictures of the suspect throughout the taxi community, but he has still not been identified.
