This has to be one of the most alarming articles I've read in a long while and I had to share it.

Research suggests that some investors are putting money into HYIPs, which they know to be scams, in the hope they will see a return and their investment back before the whole thing fails.

They are even using websites (so-called "HYIP aggregators") to find out when is best for them to cash out.

I know the authorities/administrators sued the in-profit Madoff investors for unjust enrichment but surely these kind of investors also deserve criminal punishment.

In my opinion what they are doing is directly aiding and abetting the fraudsters in a disgusting display of profiteering.
