Barely a day seems to pass without the emergence of a new scam to be wary of, and this latest one involving a hoax email from Amazon seems particularly nefarious.

As rumours of the global retail giant launching on our shores in November spread, scam artists have taken advantage of the enthusiasm of local bargain hunters, spreading a scam email that offers Aussie shoppers the chance to win a $500 gift voucher.

The email, pictured above, asks the recipient to click on a link and share their views about Amazon. The victim is redirected to a page that looks to be a legitimate survey, but is actually a fraud, aimed at harvesting their personal data.

Angus Kidman, editor-in-chief of comparison site Finder, told News.com.au, “Many rumours about Amazon Australia’s launch are circulating, and crooks have seen this as fertile ground to dupe Australians. If you foolishly click on the link in the email, it will take you to a survey about Amazon’s plans — which on the surface seems logical enough.

“Looking at it more closely though, it is filled with grammatical errors, which is one of the clearest indicators of a scam.

I wonder if this is just the tip of a phishing iceberg?
