Accused lottery scammers get bail extension

    WESTERN BUREAU:

Two St James men, arrested during an Anti-lottery Scam Task Force raid last July, had their bails extended in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court on Wednesday, as their case file was incomplete.

Electrician Omar Holmes, 32, and 24-year-old sales representative Errol Wright, both from Lilliput, were charged with conducting fraudulent transactions. They had their case deferred to February 26, after presiding magistrate Carolyn Tie was told the forensic information in the case was not ready.

It is alleged that on July 19, approximately 11:30 a.m., a police team, armed with a search warrant, conducted a raid at premises occupied by Holmes and Wright. Seven sheets of paper with identification information from overseas, and a notebook with similar information were seized. Both men were arrested and charged.

Clerk of the Court Natalie Malcolm told Tie the forensic certificate would not be ready until February.

"The investigating officer is not here and the forensics in this matter will be ready in another two months," said Malcolm. Tie subsequently reset the case.
